Class 1
Certified handlers in control of class 1 substances [Regulations 4.1 and 9.3, Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017]
 
 
Conditions: The certification of handlers (class 1) is limited to:
i. Handlers in control of detonation and deflagration of Class 1 substances for avalanche control (hand charging, avalauncher and heli bombing), construction blasting, electricity supply and transmission, indoor and outdoor pyrotechnic displays, land operations, seismic surveys and surface shot firing but does not include land operations for the oil and gas industries, mining and quarrying;

ii. Handlers manufacturing water gel explosives (containing ammonium nitrate) and ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil) only;

iii. Handlers in control of the transfer of Class 1 substances from one type of transport to another [Part 9, subpart 5, Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017].

Conditions that apply for this authorisation

  • You must perform the functions of a compliance certifier in an objective manner that promotes safety.
  • You must remain a fit and proper person throughout the period of your authorisation.
